About the Coach & Coaching Philosophy
Why Touchline Playbook Exists
Touchline Playbook exists to help football coaches and parents plan, think, decide, and develop — not just deliver drills.
Too much football coaching, particularly at grassroots level, focuses on what activity to run, and not enough on why, when, and how to make better decisions across training, matchday, and the wider player development journey.
This platform was built to close that gap.
My Coaching Background
I am a football coach with experience across grassroots football, development centres, academy-linked environments, and senior football, working in both the United Kingdom and Portugal.
My coaching journey includes:
- Working with players from early foundation ages through to youth and senior levels
- Experience within structured development environments linked to professional clubs
- Matchday responsibility, session design, and longer-term player planning
- Exposure to different football cultures, standards, and coaching methodologies
This is not theory-led coaching.
Everything inside Touchline Playbook is shaped by real environments, real players, and real constraints.
Player Development & Progression
A key part of my work has been individual and long-term player development.
I have supported players who have:
- Progressed from grassroots football into professional academies
- Moved between academy environments at professional clubs
- Transitioned into senior and semi-professional football
- Navigated release, re-entry, and alternative progression pathways
A significant part of my work has involved preparing players for academy-level environments — supporting their technical standards, decision-making, physical readiness, and mindset over time.
While progression into academies can never be guaranteed, I have worked with players who, through structured development and long-term support, have successfully moved into professional academy systems.
This work shapes my approach to development — focusing on standards and behaviours, not promises or shortcuts — and directly informs how I design resources for coaches and parents at each stage of the journey.
Coaching Philosophy (How I Work)
My coaching philosophy is built around clarity, standards, and decision-making.
I believe:
- Coaching is about guiding behaviour, not just running sessions
- Warm-ups, drills, and games must all have clear intent
- Players develop faster when coaches understand why they are doing something
- Parents and coaches need alignment, not conflict
- Good coaching reduces chaos, confusion, and emotional decision-making on matchday
This philosophy runs through every product on Touchline Playbook — from warm-ups and matchday tools to mindset and planning frameworks.
Physical Preparation & Player Welfare
Alongside technical and tactical development, I place strong importance on:
- Physical preparation appropriate to age and stage
- Load management and injury-risk awareness
- Understanding fatigue, recovery, and readiness
- Working within safe and responsible coaching boundaries
This ensures players are developed intelligently, not pushed blindly.
Who Touchline Playbook Is For
Touchline Playbook is designed for coaches and parents working in real football environments — where time is limited, pressure exists, and decisions matter.
It is especially valuable for:
- Grassroots coaches seeking structure, clarity, and confidence
- Parent-coaches supporting players without formal coaching education
- Parents navigating development pathways, trials, pressure, and expectations
- Coaches who want to raise standards without overcomplicating football
The content is not built to replicate professional club systems or complex tactical models.
It is built to support clear thinking, sound decisions, and consistent standards in real-world environments.
For coaches operating at elite professional levels, the material may feel intentionally simple and principle-led.
For those closer to the grassroots, it will feel practical, grounding, and essential.
This is by design.
